Conference: Casual Connect Europe (10-12 Feb, Hamburg)

We’re in full swing in the conference season, and next week, one of the more exciting conferences in the game space opens its doors in pretty Hamburg again: Casual Connect Europe, the old world iteration of the event by the Casual Games Association gives a fantastic cross-section of the state of the game across platforms. There are a number of strands to follow, including mobile, where a lot – unsurprisingly – centers around smartphones and the iPhone as well as the change to ecosystems that app stores but also the higher (actual) connectivity of these newer handsets have brought about.

I will be there, too (attending and speaking). So if you are in town (or want to get a good grip on the latest and greatest in the casual games space, head over to Hamburg and give me a shout.

Conference: M-Football, London

The biggest event in 2010 is, distinct to certain fanboys opinion, the launch of the iSlate or new iPhone or iAnything nor, as Canadians will have us think, the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, but the Football World Cup this summer (and, no, my dear American readers, this is not the Super Bowl). And whereas one could already see mobile rearing its beautiful head at the last World Cup 2006 in Germany, many people think that South Africa 2010 will provide a breakthrough in mobile service provision around this.

Therefore, quite fittingly, the wonderful guys at Camerjam have put together a conference on the topic, and a nice one, too. The speaker line up includes some proper rock stars, such as (in no particular order):

  • Former FIFA Product Director Rupert Daniels
  • Author and Blogger Tomi Ahonen
  • WPP Global Client Leader Matt Linder
  • ITV Media’s Commercial Director Alex Goudsmith
  • Real Madrid’s Head of Mobile Pedro Duarte Gonzalez
  • MMA Managing Director Europe Paul Berney
  • AdMob VP Russel Buckley
  • BBC VP Global Adsales & Strategy Tom Bowman
  • Sky Mobile GM David Gibbs
  • Layar co-founder Claire Boonstra

and many, many more including yours truly (and as a licensee, I will be cheering the reigning World Champions, Italy, on this time, believe it or not!). Besides all that, the venue is the best: Arsenal’s home ground, the Emirates.

If you want to come, it’s on next week (21 January) and you can register here: http://www.camerjam.com/events/m-football/register/

Conference: Droidcon, Berlin

Droidcon is the first conference around the business and development environment for Android. The full programme is available here. It’s rolling right now in Berlin-Dahlem (Dahlem Cube). It will be followed by one of Mobile Zeitgeist‘s MZ Mixers, which kicks of tonight at 6pm (local) in the CSA Bar in central Berlin. Come around if you’re in the area. Should be cool!

droidcon: Android Conference, Berlin (4 Nov 2009)

As Android continues to roll out (at least 18 devices by year-end), the ecosystem around it starts to sprout, too. To highlight this, an Android-centered business and development-oriented conference, Droidcon, will hit Berlin on 4 November, and I will be giving a keynote on licensing models and open source (full programme here).

It looks like a very exciting event, so I’d like to encourage everyone to come (there are 4 parallel tracks, so you do not have to listen to my ranting…)! Register here (and, no, I do not earn a commission).

I’ll post a little preview on what I will be talking about more specifically ahead of the event, so stay tuned.

Conference: Mobile 2.0 Europe

Mobile guru and blogger extraordinaire Rudy de Waele is bringing us the next iteration of the very successful (and exciting!) Mobile 2.0 conference to Europe this year. The 2-day event takes place in Barcelona on 18/19 June 2009 and focusses on the emerging mobile ecosystems and disruptive mobile innovation (for more on disruptive innovation [re-]read Clayton Christensen’s “The Innovator’s Dilemma“), grouped around six separate themes. This then looks as follows:
Rudy and his team have lined up a cool speaker line-up to illustrate each theme, comprising the creme de la creme of European operators, VCs, handset makers and application and service providers, including the CEO of Dopplr, Head of LBS at Vodafone, the CMO of Smaato, the Head of O2 Litmus, etc, etc.
The conference website can be found here. Sign up, it’s well worth it!

22/23 April: European Media Conference, Prague

I have mentioned this earlier: Next week, I will be headed to beautiful Prague in order to attend and contribute to the European Mobile Media Conference. If you can, make sure to head over (there is even some last-minute discount).

I will be speaking about the phenomenon that is “social games” (are there really that many non-social games?) and I am fairly excited to be able to meet and learn from a couple of rather remarkable people that promise to bring fresh views to the mobile entertainment table. Speakers include carriers (Telefonica/O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile will all be there) and distributors (the CEO of Aspiro, Gunnar Selleg, will be amongst the speakers), OEM and technology platform providers (Nokia, Nokia-Siemens, Ericsson) but also – and maybe most remarkably – a few luminaries from the classic agency world, namely Mark C Linder (WPP) and Jonathan MacDonald (Ogilvy) whose views will surely be tested by the godfather of mobile advertising, Russell Buckley.
Have a look at the full programme and ping me if you are coming!
