The question is however a different one, I think: the market addressed by app developers in the (so-called) developed world is very different to the one of emerging countries. These are simply two different things. Check out Every1Mobile for initiatives in Africa. You will see (as you probably suspected) that most services there (and incredibly successful ones, too!) are running on J2ME and/or SMS and/or WAP.</description>
