Hi Lars,

Greetings to Tokyo! Thanks for your (as always) very thoughtful comment, to which I wholeheartedly agree! If states (or companies) can support innovation, it is as facilitators through providing the spaces for such collaboration. And the US and certain US companies have been good at that as the Silicon Valley and the East Coast tech triangle or the likes of Google have shown in particular.

However, the principle stands: it is people and ideas, not places (geographic or corporate), that bring about progress.

Hi Volker:

Spot-on.. it's an interesting catch-all term (innovation) that's being tossed around alot lately with a somewhat vague, and open to interpretation, definition.

Thomas Friedman from the NYT did an op-ed 'Georgia on my Mind' awhile back and summed-up as: "Innovation is where creative thinking and practical know-how meet to do new things in new ways.. and old things in new ways"

I would kindly suggest the 'magic' is not a continent, country or even company specific space but wholly attributed to individuals mashing together skill-sets and resources from across a broad spectrum. While some folks are keen to wave the flag.. it should be obvious this evolution, the ecosystem that built and will continue to drive it, requires combined input from beyond traditional borders and brands to succeed.

Cheers.. 8-)

This is a really good article; and a well placed response to Scoble's piece. There's really not much more that needs to be said.
